DuimpjeSintelen, or something like it? We are going English this Sinterklaas period, with an American born actor-comedian who's ready to stick our national favourite romcom Alles is Liefde in a burlap sack, to send it off to Spain. It is the Dutch knock-off version of Love Actually, but in stead of dressing it up with Christmas the crew drowned in a Dutch holiday tradition.
Derek Mitchell has lived in the Netherlands for over ten years and he has already got his Dutch passport. That must have been a doozy for him, with his language and observational skills. You would probably know him from Let's Double Dutch, his online channel on which he lovingly pokes fun at Dutchies. His sketches have been watched over 25 million times. And right now, he is touring his live show, with stand up and sketches.
Amongst other things we discuss watching Alles is Liefde as a rite of passage to connect with Dutch culture, the Revenge of the Nerds and blackface scenes in the movie and some famous Dutch folk who've passed from view.
